Periods 3 & 5
Good morning and happy Friday! Hope all is well at NHS. I do not have any new assignments for you today. I have introduced all of the photo touch ups that I have for portraits, and you have a proof sheet to make today so today is simply a day to finish up your projects from the week, make a proof sheet, and learn about next weeks photo assignment. I have had a few questions about this weeks photo assignment. This week's photos are Depth of Field. I have a video describing the task. Last week when we talked about it I called it the sandwich technique and said that often it's only a matter of changing your perspective to add something to the foreground with your subject behind that foreground and then having something in the background of the shot. If you're not sure about it, watch the video or even google depth of field images to see how they build their shots.

For next Friday, I want you to take 10 photos of textures. What is a texture? It's simply... a texture is something that has a "feel" to it. A basketball has a texture with all of those little bumps on it. A brick wall has a texture because of those rough crevices in the brick. Glass has a texture... but it doesn't show in a photo because you wouldn't be able to "feel" that texture what you look at it. All you would see is a clear surface. The textures that you shoot should be something that you can almost feel when you look at the photo. I have two resources that explain this. The first explains how light can effect textures and the second gives you advice and tips on textures. Give them a read and it will help you to take better pictures for this. I have a video also to explain the assignment. One final piece of info on the project, fill the frame with the texture! Later in the class we will use these photos to blend them in to another photo and make the photo look worn. If you fill the frame with only the texture this will work perfectly. I will talk more about it on Monday when I am back to class. I hope you have a great day and a fantastic weekend!

Periods 3 & 5
Hello there everyone, hope you're having a fantastic Thursday. The week is flying by isn't it? Here we are and it's Thursday already! Today we'll continue along with our touch ups and work on probably the most fun touch up of all. I really try to hold this one off because it's so easy to play with the tool and get lost in it. Today I'd like to introduce the Liquify Filter. This essentially makes the photo water that is able to be pulled and pushed around like any liquid. This tool essentially allows you to change the proportions of things. In my video you will see me using the Liquify Filter to make a nose smaller and on another, make muscles larger. The goal is to make the proportions more attractive but you can have fun with it and really play God with your subject. As you do so, remember that this is the kind of things that is done in professional photo shoots quite often... but is it ethical? How would your subject feel about what you are doing to them? Don't forget to turn in a before and after version of the portrait.

If you have completed this and all of the other touch ups, you can get started on the final one; Sharpening. This one is tough and one wrong move can cause you to have to start over. Please take your time and give it a try. If the embedded PowerPoint here doesn't seem to make sense, please let me know and I'll create a video to explain the whole process. If I don't here anything though, I'll assume that all is well and you don't need a video to help you complete the process. I don't mind making a tutorial, just don't want to waste my time if it's not needed! Hope you have a great day today!

Periods 3 & 5
Hello everyone, happy hump day! Hope your day is going well. I have to tell you... yesterday we were doing a little browsing in some shops and I went in to a Marvel shop. They had a working, full size Infinity  Gauntlet and I go to try it on! It made my day! I'll show you a picture when I return. I felt like a little kid as I giggled gleefully wearing it!!! Anyway, back to the important stuff, Photography. I haven't heard much from anyone about the projects that I'm assigning so I'm assuming that all is going well with them. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have a problem!

Today I have two more small assignments for you. Honestly, these are much easier that the other other two from yesterday. Let's start with the easiest to make you feel smart first! I would like you to find one of your photos that has red eye. Don't have one? I get it... if it occurred in a shot, chances are you either deleted it or found a way to remove it with an app. So for this one, you can simply find one on Google to use. Just for this project though! Here is the super short video that explains how to remove red eye. Don't forget that you need both the before and after version to turn in on Schoology!

The next one is a little more challenging, but still easily manageable. It's not really a touch up, but something that can add some professionalism to your photo and subtly call the viewers eyes into the subject. It's called a vignette. Here you can find a video and handout for this as well. As always, let me know if I can help out! Hope you have a fantastic day today!

Periods 3 & 5
Hello there photographers. Hope your day is going well. Today I have two new photo touch ups for you: Smart Blur and Smart Cast. So I told you earlier in the class that Photoshop is known as a destructive editing program because after 30 times undoing your work the change is permanent. When, Photoshop's answer to that is smart layers. With smart layers you can remove the layer with the alteration on it, re-edit the alteration or just temporarily hide it. Today's project are a little more difficult than yesterday's, but they aren't really hard.

First, there is Smart Cast. In this assignment I would like you to tan someone. Now when you tan someone, it only works if only the skin becomes tan. So after you add a color cast to the photo, erase the color everywhere accept the skin. Eyes, clothes, background, etc... erase it all but the skin. Don't forget to save a before version before you start and then save the after version separately so I can see the difference.

Then the other smart object assignment is to blur someone's skin enough to make their skin look smooth and soft. Again it should be just the skin. Also don't forget to save a before and after version to turn in on Schoology. Again, if you have any questions, please email me. Hope you have a fantastic Tuesday!

Periods 3 & 5
Hello there. Hope your day is going well and that you had a fantastic weekend. Today marks the end of vectors and that start of the touch ups unit. This means that your logo is due today, so before you move over to the touch ups unit, complete and turn in your logo. To get started on the new unit, I'd like you to first watch this short video. I can't and won't teach you to do the makeup part, but some of the Photoshop techniques we will cover. The purpose of the video is to show you how touched up photos can and often are. I don't want you to think that I'm saying this is how we all should look... not at all! I want you to see and be able to do some of these things that photographers commonly do to make their subjects look more glamorous.

So let's get started! We'll start simple and work up to the more challenging tasks. First, I'd like you to find one of your photos in which the subject has a mole, pimple, birthmark or other slight and small mark. This video will explain how to remove the blemish. It's pretty simple, but to do it well might require some experimenting. Before you start, save a the photo. Then choose File>Save As, and save it as Your Name Clone Stamp After so that you can upload a before and after version to Schoology. If you used the Clone Stamp correctly, I won't be able to tell that there was ever a blemish there so I need the original to compare to.

The second little assignment for today is to remove bags, wrinkles or dark circles below the eyes. Here is a video that explains the technique. It's pretty easy to do, but keep in mind that it will not completely remove the dark circle. Instead it will blend the dark skin or wrinkles with other skin. Give it a try, but first save the original version and then instantly do a Save As and again use your name Dark Circles After so that you have the before and after in separate files. Give it a try!

Both of these assignments will be due on Wednesday so you have time to experiment and perfect your work! Hope it goes well and that you have a fantastic day today! Don't hesitate to email me if you have a question!
